PRINCETON, NJ -- 11/18/09 -- Princeton University Press today announced a publishing partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the world's largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship, to launch the Kauffman Series on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Launched during Global Entrepreneurship Week, a weeklong celebration of entrepreneurship, the Series is a collaborative effort between the Kauffman Foundation, Princeton University Press and the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at New York University to publish the best scholarship in innovation and entrepreneurial research, from general interest titles to more scholarly works.

The first book in the Series debuts this week with the release of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Why Public Efforts to Boost Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Have Failed -- and What to Do about It." Written by Harvard Business School professor Josh Lerner, this book provides the first extensive look at the ways governments have supported entrepreneurs and venture capitalists across decades and continents, and why some are successful and others are not.

"Boulevard represents the high-quality, insightful research that readers can expect from the Kauffman Series," said Robert Litan, vice president of Research & Policy at the Kauffman Foundation. "Each book will shed light on areas of innovation and entrepreneurship that will enlighten and encourage others to look more deeply into these important fields."

Other books in the series will include "The Invention of Enterprise: Entrepreneurship from Ancient Mesopotamia to Modern Times," a volume of historical essays on entrepreneurship edited by David S. Landes, Joel Mokyr and William J. Baumol, due for release in February 2010; and, "The Microtheory of Innovative Entrepreneurship" by William J. Baumol, which is scheduled for a July 2010 release.

The Kauffman Series and will publish between two to three new titles a year. Princeton University Press economics editor Seth Ditchik will be working with the Kauffman Foundation to produce influential and timely new titles that will affect not only the discipline of entrepreneurship but also policymakers, business managers and technology financiers.
