LOS ANGELES, CA -- 07/23/08 --
Farmers Insurance Group Angel City Classic
will hold a press conference at 10:00 A.M. PDT Tuesday, August 5, 2008, to
address the dismal dropout rates for California's minority high school
students. They will also announce the upcoming schedule of events for the
September 27, 2008 football game between Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA
and Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, TX.
WHO: Black Educational Events, LLC (B.E.E.) and title sponsor Farmers
Insurance Group (Farmers), celebrities, grassroots community
leaders, elected officials.
WHAT: Announcement of the 3rd Annual Angel City Classic to promote
higher education and bring awareness of the cultural and
educational opportunities offered at Historically Black Colleges
and Universities (HBCUs), particularly among youth on the west
coast.
WHERE: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, 3911 South Figueroa Street,
Los Angeles, CA 90037
WHY: In the Los Angeles Unified School District alone, there is a 45%
graduation rate among African Americans and Latinos. As one way to
motivate students to stay in school and consider a college
education, Black Educational Events and Farmers seek to garner
community and business support for the Classic, while encouraging
others to get involved in this current crisis in education
disproportionately impacting young people of color.
