Seats still available for PN program at the UCW Academy of Health in Victoria

Victoria, BC (PRWEB) -- As British Columbia economy recovers from the recession, the province’s health care sector is just one industry taking the lead in employment opportunities. Nursing is a particular growth area thanks to retirements in the field and an increased need for nursing care from the province’s aging population. Anyone looking to enter the field can turn to the Practical Nursing program at the UCW Academy of Health, which is now taking applications for a November start.

“With all of the changes occurring in the health care field today, practical nurses are an essential part of team,” says Patricia Hitchens, Director of Nursing at UCW Academy of Health. “The job often requires quick thinking and the ability to see the bigger picture, so they should take a humanistic approach towards their clients and their roles.”

The 52-week PN program trains students in a variety of areas, building a skill set that will be transferable to careers in hospitals, private clinics and nursing homes. The curriculum follows the training standards outlined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC). In addition, students also take part in multiple practicum placements that prepare them to enter the workforce. More information about the program can be found at http://academyofhealth.ca/Diploma_Programs/Nursing_Programs/Nursing_Programs.

The UCW Academy of Health will accept applications for the Practical Nursing program until November 30, 2009 when the program begins in Victoria.
