ALEXANDRIA, VA -- 07/06/09 -- Phase2 Technology has debuted Tattler (app) a tool for finding, monitoring and tracking online information from major news outlets to blogs, twitter feeds and other social media. Using semantic web technologies, Tattler mines the Internet for mentions of the issues and topics most relevant to an organization.

Tattler is a turn-key open source solution that is tailored to meet the needs of those with responsibilities in a variety of fields, including public relations and communications; publishing and journalism; political campaigns; research and public policy.

Tattler allows users to monitor consumer and thought-leader opinions, determine what is driving topical buzz, discover competitive intelligence, track trends, and understand the needs of consumers and constituents. But it's also a powerful tool for the news and information industries. It can be used to mine for stories and public opinion as well as track news trends and find new story ideas.

Built and distributed on Drupal, Tattler's unique workflow and a toolset of intelligent content processors allow users to easily filter, organize, share, and take action on content gathered from the web.

Tattler processes content through the Open Calais semantic tagging API provided by Thomson Reuters. Open Calais improves the Meta processing of content, and provides auto tagging, and accurate categorization of content. Other features include the ability to set up multiple topic searches, an image retrieval function, inline free tagging, charting and an easy to use interface.

"Giving users an open source tool to mine and monitor information of critical interest to their business is very exciting," said Jeff Walpole, CEO, Phase2 Technology. "We hope that others will see the value in this tool and participate in its development as an open source product."
