(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 10, 2009 ) CARDIFF, WALES - According to a survey published by Pass4sure.com recently, American IT certification market should not be underestimated. Although this year, the speed of development slowed down to some extent, however, tech certified technicians of 2009 are increased by 23%, compared to that of 2008. Furthermore, nowadays, everyone has got nearly 4 certifications on average, and 74% of them claimed that they’ll study to gain more certifications in the following year.
As the IT certifications overheating persistently, what will they bring to you in your career?
IT Certification: One Is Better Than Nothing
If you are an experienced IT professional, an IT certification will be very help for you. It shows that you know well about all those that a programmer or a network engineer should obtain. “The opportunity of being hired is increased highly if you have a certification,” Neil Sterling, President and Founder of Pass4sure said. “As the market demand of IT professionals is declining nowadays, certified ones are more likely to win in this job-hunting campaign.”
In this survey, 29% of them got a promotion in the first year after they gain a junior certification. Although, promotion does not mean salary upgrade, it is a sign. Of course, there is no inevitable causality between certification and promotion. However, most of them believe that certifications play an important role.
IT certification: Leading Salary Raise
Overall, IT certifications may lead salary raise. According to the survey, salaries of MCP certified are 4% higher than that of those non-certified. In the 8000 interviews, 20% of them got a salary raise due to the certification while 50% made no difference. In a survey made in last year, employers are likely to pay additionally for those who have certain skills, such as Oracle, DBA, MCSE, SAP, PeopleSoft, etc.
IT certification: Not a Panacea
“IT certification doesn’t stand for enough knowledge and skills, but it can be regarded as an outset,” said a president of a network company, “I don’t think it is necessary to spend more time and money on certifications. There are always some guys who show me dozens of certifications which made me dazzled. Actually, I like those who gain a solid knowledge on computer and network theories.”
A Novell certification lecture said honestly: “My understanding on the tech certification is that certification can never take the place of experience.” Employers can find the qualified employees in a high efficiency by check their certification. But it is just a method, not the only requirement of the company.
IT Certifications without the Support of Experience Equal to Waste Paper
Even those who aren’t able to tell bit from byte are planning to be IT professional to gain high salaries. Du to the high salary, many people take part in the IT certification training schools, in order to be certified. However, according to some employers, such certifications are unable to ensure you a job. To some people, certifications are meaningless, for they are unable to apply the certification required skills to practical work. Thus, find an IT job before you are experienced enough to take the IT certification exams.
IT certification: Has a Valid Period
As to the IT certification, there is another inevitable topic, the valid period. With the rapid development of technologies, today’s mainstream items may be washed out tomorrow. Almost all IT certifications have a short valid period. Sometimes, when you finally gain a certain certification after making great efforts, it has expired. There is a doubt on the experts’ experience in the IT industry. Thus, if you’re trying to find your feet in the IT field, what you should obtain is not only experience but also a capability of learning and updating knowledge.
