Over 500 Los Angeles-based employees from Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies will spend part of their work day at on and off-lot project sites to support 10 Los Angeles charities and schools.
In addition, Viacom's other divisions, including MTV Networks and BET Networks, have volunteer activities planned in five other U.S. cities. Throughout New York, Chicago, Detroit, Miami and Washington D.C., Viacom employees will celebrate and continue the company's tradition of volunteerism by serving meals to the hungry, improving public spaces, mentoring kids and otherwise giving back to the communities in which they work and live.
"On this special day of service the entire Paramount family takes a moment from the business of making movies to get involved in creating a better community," said Brad Grey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures Corporation. "Viacommunity Day is an honored tradition for our employees and reminds us that we each have the power to make a difference."
2008 Viacommunity Day beneficiaries in Los Angeles include: AIDS Project Los Angeles, Aviva Family and Children's Services, Bark Avenue Foundation, Frances Blend School for the Visually Impaired, Jordan High School/Media Aid Center, Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), Project Angel Food, Santa Monica Boulevard Community Charter School, Van Ness Avenue School, and Anysoldier.com, an online-based organization that distributes care packages to deployed United States troops.
Off-lot Viacommunity Day activities in Los Angeles include structural and grounds beautification projects including assembling and installing furniture, supporting carpentry activities, gardening, packing groceries and painting, as well as reading, petting zoo, face-painting, and creating arts & crafts activities with elementary school students. On-lot projects include sorting and packing items for various charities.
