College Students Tap Acts from NC State, Portland State & Georgia Perimeter to Perform alongside Wyclef Jean and Other College Favorites at mtvU Campus Invasion 08 Music Festivals
NEW YORK, April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, today announced that Palm(R) Centro(TM) at AT&T has joined on to sponsor the network's Best Music on Campus "battle of the bands" competition, as well as mtvU "Campus Invasion Music Festival '08." mtvU also announced today that college students have selected Inflowential (NC State), The Lives of Famous Men (Portland State University) and We Are Only Fiction (Georgia Perimeter College) as the three finalists in the newly minted "mtvU and Palm(R) Centro(TM) at AT&T Battle of the Bands" competition. Driven by student support on mtvU's BestMusiconCampus.com, these three acts have already won the opportunity to share the stage with Wyclef Jean, The Bravery, Flo Rida, Cobra Starship and the other rapidly rising stars on this year's "Campus Invasion" bill. Inflowential, The Lives of Famous Men and We Are Only Fiction will now compete for the chance to be crowned the grand prize winner, collecting $10,000 in cash, free Palm Centro smartphones, service contracts from AT&T and a chance to host mtvU's "Dean's List," the definitive top ten weekly college music countdown.
Several weeks ago, mtvU extended an invitation to unsigned college bands and artists nationwide, offering the opportunity for the best to be featured at this year's "Campus Invasion" festivals -- full days of live music and free giveaways in top college towns Boston, MA, College Park, MD and Philadelphia, PA. Hundreds registered, 25 were selected to battle it out, and after rounds of student voting, the top three have been chosen. College students nationwide are now encouraged to vote their top choice all the way to the Palm Centro and AT&T-sponsored grand prize.
mtvU's "Campus Invasion '08" music festivals will feature Grammy-winning superstar Wyclef Jean as headliner and take place during the first weekend of May at the University of Maryland, the University of Massachusetts Boston and at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Each event will also showcase show-stopping live performances from emerging acts on the college music scene, including The Bravery, Flo Rida, Cobra Starship, Simple Plan, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Lloyd, The Spill Canvas and All Time Low. For tickets and more info on the specific bill for each date, please visit campusinvasion.mtvU.com. Those who can't make it to one of the all day music festivals can catch exclusive live performances, behind-the-scenes interviews and more on mtvU and http://www.mtvu.com/ beginning May 12th. mtvU's "Campus Invasion Music Festival '08" is also sponsored by Burger King; Live Nation is the promoter.
