CHICAGO - (Business Wire) Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), a global provider of systems software and virtualization technology for embedded systems, announced today that the companys OKL4 microkernel-based virtualization platform enables the integration of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 smartphone with the Qualcomm MSM7200 chip set, providing advanced power management capability and a feature-rich multimedia environment.

OK Labs' award-winning OKL4 software technology equips device designers with the tools needed to create secure, reliable and trustworthy devices. OKL4 enables the design of more secure and reliable smartphones while reducing bill of materials, reducing time-to-market and decreasing the impact of increasing software complexity.

The XPERIA X1 is the first handset in the Sony Ericsson XPERIA series and is globally available and supported by leading service providers. The XPERIA was designed to meet the needs of mobile customers who are demanding improved web capabilities, mobile communication and multimedia entertainment. These features and the software needed to implement them testify to the trend of increasing software complexity, which OKL4 is uniquely designed to address.

To meet the security and design challenges associated with increasing software complexity, OK Labs recently announced Secure HyperCell technology. Secure HyperCell technology supports embedded virtualization, secure execution of software components segmented for a minimal trusted computing base, and fault isolation within complex systems.

With the pervasiveness of OKL4, OK Labs has quickly become the industry standard, said Steve Subar, CEO, OK Labs. There is no better way to achieve unprecedented safety and security than with OKL4 and Secure HyperCell Technology. Sony Ericsson joins HTC, Toshiba and LG Electronics in the launch of mobile handsets that include OKL4 software technology: HTC Mogul / XV6800 / PPC6800 / P4000, HTC TyTN II P4550 (HTC Kaiser 120), HTC Touch Dual, Toshiba W47T, and LG KS20.

OKL4 is available now from Open Kernel Labs under open source and commercial licenses. For more information and to download software, visit http://www.ok-labs.com/.
