Second Issue Features Matt Lauer, River Adventures, Hot Chinese Food and Orlando Alternatives
MCLEAN, Va., April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following the successful launch of Open Air Magazine in March, the second issue hits newsstands on Friday, May 2. Published by USA TODAY, the nation's top-selling newspaper, Open Air is available in Friday editions of the newspaper. Additional on-sale dates are Sept. 5 and Nov. 7.
In this summer issue of Open Air readers will again find a special combination of inspiration and information. Those elements come together in compelling columns and fast-paced features, in tune with your busy days and fun-filled weekends.

Highlights of Open Air's second issue include the following stories: - WHERE IN THE WORLD DOES MATT LAUER VACATION (Page 40)
The globe-trotting and popular "Today Show" host outlines his ideas for a perfect holiday, talks about vacation memories - best and worst - the importance of vacations, how he picks a vacation spot and how that's changed over the years.

Pull quotes from Matt Lauer include: -- "So much has been made about Americans and how we are overworked. We don't stop and take time to relax and recharge like people in other countries do." (Page 42) -- "I'd like to start taking my children to places that can illustrate the importance of preserving things. I was in Greenland for a show not long ago, and I'd like to take them there to see this glacier that's melting. I'm not looking to immerse them into a totally green lifestyle, but I'd like them to be more aware and conscious of the situation." (Page 43) -- "One of the premiere rules of traveling with children is a direct flight under five hours, preferably with a television in the back of the seat. You don't want it to be an endurance test just to get to a vacation. And you don't want to ruin the relaxation of a vacation with a grueling flight back." (Page 43) - WET AND WILD (Page 34)
This article profiles an individual who finds his center experiencing the beauty of nature while canoeing, a rugged outdoorsman who focuses his energy on wrestling a raft or kayak through dangerous rapids and a family that bonds by tubing and picnicking downstream. We also look at the best gear and destinations from mild to wild, including tubing with family, canoeing, kayaking and white-water rafting in Canada, Colorado and West Virginia.
- ADVENTURES IN EATING (Page 31)
Forget bad memories of chop suey and greasy egg rolls, today's high-profile Chinese chefs are unique and passionate about freshness, nutrition, exotic combinations and eye appeal. We interview chef and author Susanna Foo (restaurants in Philadelphia and Atlantic City), who was raised in Taiwan and educated herself on the spices, grains, and produce indigenous to the region. Foo's recipes give readers an opportunity to experience another culture with their own take on traditional Chinese cooking.
- ORLANDO ALTERNATIVES (Page 28)
Escape the traditional theme parks of this Florida hot spot and discover the other sensational and quirky theme parks that are a day's drive away. Destinations include: Gatorland, Kennedy Space Center, Ravenous Pig Gastro Pub, Spook Hill, Wallaby Ranch for hang-gliding and Wickeewatchee Springs.
Other highlights include: Seven recommendations on things that can have a positive impact on your longevity and vitality from age-experts and best-sellers Drs. Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz; an inside peek at The Richard Petty Experience, one of a growing number of enterprises that provides thrill seekers the opportunity to get into a NASCAR ride and whip around an actual Nextel Cup track at 120 MPH; a look at all the new fun summer beach gear, including volleyball nets, easy-to-assemble shade tents and boogey boards; a test drive of a range of GPS devices just in time for Father's Day; and newly retired NFL quarterback Vinny Testaverde and the NBA's Greg Oden acclaim their water workouts and their trainer explains how their regimen can work for you.
