ATLANTA, Oct. 15 GA-BrigadeQuartermast
ATLANTA, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- There's an old saying among generals that "an army runs on its stomach." But a look at the online purchasing history for Brigade Quartermasters, a supplier of emergency and survival equipment for the military and law enforcement, indicates soldiers know all too well that an army walks and runs on its feet.
Various types of boots -- from safety toes (No. 1 on the list) to lightweight "hot weather" styles -- make up five of the top 20 most popular online purchases. The products are categorized as "Top 100 Deployment Gear Items" by the warehouse and fulfillment operation that offers more than 25,000 items at www.brigadeqm.com.
"Our online orders always increase just before holidays such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day," said Mitchell L. WerBell, IV, Brigade Quartermasters' President. "Families, friends, active duty and ex-military men and women seem to make a special effort at these times to bring some comfort to our soldiers overseas."
WerBell said troops and their families find it quick and easy to go online to shop for and ship gear items that may be in short supply or on back order where the soldier is stationed. The items also are available for personal use by civilian consumers.
Other popular items among the Top 100 Deployment Gear items include: lightweight, form-fitting undergarments and socks that are specially made to expel perspiration and keep in warmth; water-resistant parkas; lightweight casual wear; rigger belts; gloves; and a traditional desert headdress known as a shemagh, which is designed to protect from the sun, wind and sand.
Brigade Quartermasters' support of our troops extends into its Corporate Giving Program known as "BGood." The program includes Goodies for the Good Guys, items donated by BQM and vendors for distribution to deployed personnel; and Gear for a Warrior, items selected by the company and offered at a discounted rate for customers who wish to donate them to a soldier overseas. Consumers have the option to designate a soldier or unit to send the product(s) to either a personal acquaintance, family member or someone listed on www.anysoldier.com, an organization that provides letters and donated goods to soldiers who may not be remembered as much as he or she deserves. If preferred, an open donation of item(s) may be added to a soldier's Brigade Quartermasters order that is already in house and ready to be shipped.
