Using the tool to get customized energy-saving tips is part of 12 Ways to Green campaign CHICAGO, July 31
CHICAGO, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Looking for ways to save money on your
energy bills? ComEd's online Home Energy Analysis tool offers energy-saving
tips tailored to customers' individual homes. Using this tool is one of
ComEd's 12 Ways to Green.
ComEd customers can easily access the Home Energy Analysis by visiting
http://www.ComEd.com and clicking on the Smart Ideas icon. After inputting
information about their home and its features, customers learn which areas of
their home use the most energy. In addition, the tool recommends ways to
reduce energy usage through home improvements and energy efficient products.
When customers visit the Web site, they also can access a resource library
full of helpful hints for saving energy and money.
For instance, by using the Home Energy Analysis tool, a ComEd customer
living in an approximately 2,800-square-foot single family home* could learn
numerous ways to save, such as:
-- $78-130 and 1,426 lbs. in CO2 annually by raising the thermostat
setting in the summer to 78 degrees F (similarly, by lowering your thermostat
setting in the winter to no more than 68 degrees F, the savings would include
$90-150 and 1,647 annually)
-- $92-153 and 1,682 lbs. in CO2 annually by avoiding heating unoccupied
areas of the home (one-two rooms)
-- $448-746 and 8,194 lbs. in CO2 annually for an implementation cost of
$100-300 by controlling air leakage (i.e. caulking and weather stripping)
-- $205-341 and 3,448 lbs. in CO2 annually for an implementation cost of
$15-25 by sealing leaks in air ducts
-- $78-130 and 1,092 lbs. in CO2 annually for an implementation cost of
$15-25 by installing low-flow showerheads (this measure would also result in
8,561 annual water savings)
Additionally, ComEd is offering its residential customers a one-time, $10
discount on energy efficient products available in the ComEd Online Energy
Store, for those who complete an online energy analysis. This limited time
offer is in addition to the 20 percent discount ComEd customers already
receive when purchasing energy-saving products from the Online Energy Store.
"The online Home Energy Analysis tool allows customers to take control of
their energy consumption. Understanding how and when electricity is used is a
basic step consumers can take towards increasing energy efficiency and
reducing their monthly electric bills," said Anne Pramaggiore, executive vice
president of Customer Operations, Regulatory and External Affairs, ComEd.
"ComEd is committed to reducing carbon emissions and this tool will help our
customers do the same while saving money."
Encouraging use of the online Home Energy Analysis tool is part of ComEd's
12 Ways to Green campaign to increase awareness about energy efficiency and
other environmental initiatives. Launched earlier this year, 12 Ways to Green
is a comprehensive environmental strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and lower the carbon footprint of Exelon, its subsidiaries and customers.
