Advent is a time for reflection and meditation as we anticipate the arrival of Christ at Christmas. In her online Advent retreat, Loyola Press author and spirituality-workshop leader Vinita Hampton Wright will invite four guest authors to join her as she daily explores ways to help us keep our focus on Christ as we journey through the often chaotic Christmas season.

Chicago, IL (Vocus) November 30, 2009 -- Loyola Press author and spirituality-workshop leader Vinita Hampton Wright understands how stressful Christmas can be, which is why she wants people to focus on Advent, the period in the Church year that leads up to Christmas and emphasizes a thoughtful preparation of our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child.

Beginning November 30 and lasting until Christmas, Wright will use her blog site, Days of Deepening Frihip, to host an online Advent retreat that will help people, in her words, “experience Advent one day at a time.” Wright says, “Amid the self-indulgence and stress that so often define the Christmas season, I want people to experience the gifts of hopefulness, gratefulness, and a heightened sense of God’s presence in their lives.”

To help people unwrap these gifts, Wright will be inviting four other Loyola Press authors to join her blog discussion during the Advent season: James Martin, SJ, author of the national best seller My Life with the Saints; Liz Kelly, author of May Crowning, Mass, and Merton: 50 Reasons I Love Being Catholic; Fr. Dominic Grassi, author of the popular Bumping into God series; and Joan Wester Anderson, the New York Times best-selling author affectionately known as the “Angel Lady” because of her numerous books on angels. Beginning November 30, each author will be a guest one Monday during Advent, offering his or her own insights on and tips for the Advent season.

Wright, the author of many books including Days of Deepening Frihip and Simple Acts of Moving Forward, will continue the conversation begun by each guest author as she blogs the other four days of the workweek. Through the daily prayers, poems, meditations, and exercises she’ll offer, Wright hopes that her Advent retreat will foster spiritual good health and focus throughout Advent and beyond.
