Presentations from Schlossnagle and Bowen to highlight the inner workings of traditional web architectures and munging URLs. COLUMBIA, Md., Nov. 4

COLUMBIA, Md., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- OmniTI today announced its participation in ApacheCon US 2009 at the Oakland Marriott Hotel in Oakland, Calif, highlighted by two highly anticipated speaking sessions by CEO Theo Schlossnagle and Web Engineer Rich Bowen. ApacheCon 2009 is a celebration of 10 years of coding, the evolution of the Apache community, and a look at the future of Open Source and The Apache Software Foundation.

On Thursday, November 5th, at 2:00 p.m. PST, OmniTI CEO Theo Schlossnagle will host a two-hour session entitled "Scalable Internet Architectures." This session will dive into traditional web architectures and what makes them work, with a particular focus on analyzing weak points and discussing the effects of the intense pressure that can result from prolonged exposure on prominent web properties like Digg and The New York Times.com. Schlossnagle will draw heavily upon his years of experience in systems monitoring, especially the lessons he's learned culminating in the recent development, release and deployment of OmniTI's open source monitoring and trending system, Reconnoiter.

"If you monitor systems and services today without monitoring critical business metrics as well, you are placing yourself at a disadvantage that could be fatal," said Schlossnagle. "In my session, I plan to share the same expertise in the trending of systems, applications and network metrics that has been captured in Reconnoiter, our open source monitoring tool that has made great strides in both fundamental design and usability."

In addition to Schlossnagle's session, recent OmniTI hire Rich Bowen will present on Thursday, November 5th, at 9 a.m. PST on the basics of mod_rewrite syntax along with lexicon and common scenarios for developers. Bowen will focus on helping attendees understand how mod_rewrite mangles and munges URLs in order to make them easy to work with.

Bowen recently joined OmniTI as a web engineer, and is the author of Apache Cookbook and The Definitive Guide to Apache mod_rewrite. Bowen's expertise as part of the Apache Software Foundation as well as his role as member of the Apache documentation project allows for OmniTI to harness his experience and expand on its portfolio of client service offerings, and only further bolsters OmniTI's prominent position within the open source community.

"I feel very privileged to joint OmniTI, as my role lets me use my expertise to help real companies do exciting things while maintain my edge with a wide scope of technologies, including Apache, mod_perl, Perl, and PHP," said Bowen.
