(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 09, 2009 ) - Cleveland, OH - On Saturday, November 14, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will continue its tradition of wowing American and British MMA fans with the free Spike TV broadcast of UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera, which is set to kick off at 8pm at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. Featuring a main event pitting former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture against rising light heavyweight contender Brandon “The Truth” Vera, UFC 105 looks to be the best main event card offered free since UFC 75 back in September of 2007, which featured a main even pitting former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson defending his belt against Pride titleholder Dan Henderson. While no title will be on the line in the main event of the evening, the clash between fan-favorite former champion Couture and the dangerous Brandon Vera should bear serious implications for the future of the UFC 205 pound division, as an emphatic victory by either fighter could propel them onto the short list of contenders to challenge for Lyoto Machida’s UFC Light Heavyweight belt.
Couture is currently riding a two-fight losing streak after losing his UFC Heavyweight Title to Brock Lesnar in November of 2008 and then losing a Unanimous Decision in a valiant effort against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last August in the main event of UFC 102 while Vera is on a two-fight winning streak with one-sided victories over Mike Patt and Krzysztof Soszynski respectively.
Also on the night’s main card, England’s own trash-talking welterweight, Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy will look to be the first U.K. fighter to earn a shot at UFC gold when he takes on TUF 1 competitor and highly ranked American welterweight contender Mike Swick in the evening’s co-main event.
Making his return on his home stage after suffering a devastating knockout at the hands of Dan Henderson this July, the U.K.’s Michael Bisping looks to silence his critics with a resounding victory over journeymen middleweight Denis Kang in the third featured bout of the evening. A win by either fighter would keep future title hopes alive in a growing UFC 185 pound Middleweight division.
