Nolo has launched a new online lawyer directory at Lawyers.Nolo.com . Featuring more information on individual practitioners than any other lawyer directory, it currently lists California lawyers and will roll out nationally over the next year, focusing primarily on large metropolitan areas.

Nolo's Lawyer Directory operates on the principal that consumers are better served by a relatively short list of qualified attorneys (with uniform, detailed profiles) than by a long list with inconsistent profiles. Participating lawyers must complete all parts of a uniform profile that includes an unprecedented amount of information on qualifications, work history, personality, philosophy, fees, and type of cases typically handled.
"It's important that consumers have complete profiles, so they can compare attorneys and get a fit that's comfortable," says Rothenberg.
Users type in their location and choose one of ten categories of legal services. In response, the directory provides a list of local attorneys whose good standing has been verified and who offer those services. The directory also provides guidance on selecting and working with an attorney.
