WASHINGTON, March 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), together with its auxiliary organization, the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), vigorously reject the legal challenges brought by the ACLU that ordinances enacted by the city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, usurp the federal governments exclusive authority of immigration policy. The city's Illegal Immigration Relief Act, adopted last year, regulates commercial activity within Hazleton, a prerogative guaranteed to state and local governments under the tenth amendment. The trial begins today in federal court in Scranton.
Under the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, Hazleton requires local employers and landlords to verify that the people they hire or rent to are legal U.S. residents. These local policies are no different than countless others that Hazleton and every other local jurisdiction institute and enforce to ensure that businesses operate in a manner consistent with the public interest.
"Hazleton is doing nothing more than setting rules for how employers and landlords in the city do business, which is precisely the function of local governments," stated Dan Stein, president of FAIR. "The ordinances adopted enforce laws against businesses and landlords, not against illegal aliens, which is the federal government's responsibility. Of course, if the federal government were enforcing its own laws in the first place, there would be no need for Hazleton or any other state or local government to regulate the activities of local businesses."
The suit filed by the ACLU is part of a politically motivated effort by a network of advocacy groups to prevent enforcement of U.S. immigration laws, charges FAIR. There is no legal barrier to state and local governments enforcing U.S. immigration laws, so long as that enforcement is consistent with federal law.
"Hazleton and other localities have been forced to take action because of the lack of federal enforcement. And one of the primary causes for the lack of federal enforcement has been the decades-long campaign by groups like ACLU to impede interior enforcement of U.S. immigration laws," said Stein. "Using tactics that amount to legal intimidation, ACLU and others have consistently impeded reasonable federal and local efforts to identify and remove illegal aliens. Finally, in the case of Hazleton, the illegal alien advocacy network has been confronted by a determined local government, led by Mayor Lou Barletta, that refuses to simply rollover."
As the legal challenge to the Hazleton ordinances gets underway, FAIR and IRLI expressed confidence that the courts will uphold them, setting a precedent for other communities all across the country that are dealing with similar issues.

HELP US WITH THE FIGHT IN HAZLETON!!!!!
By: Bren , Fri, 16 Mar 2007 20:30:47 GMT

RALLY FOR HAZLETON!

Dear New American Independents,

Please join us as we rally in support of Hazleton, Pennsylvania's Illegal Immigration Relief ACT. The Illegal Immigration Relief Act would impose fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and deny business permits to companies that employ them. An additional companion measure requires tenants to register with City Hall.

We support Hazleton's right to defend herself against the massive flood of illegal immigrants entering the region. The inaction by the U.S. Federal government has forced many local cities and towns across the nation to take similar action. However, if we (Hazleton) lose this decision it could create a ripple effect across the nation by creating a legal precedent. That is why this case has gotten so much national attention and is being watched so closely by those on both sides of the issue.

Event Details:
DATE: March 14 - 25, 2007
TIME: 9 AM to 4PM Daily
LOCATION: Federal Building and Courthouse
235 N. Washington Ave
Scranton, PA. 18503

WHAT TO BRING: Bring signs and your friends!

The challenge against the Illegal Immigration Relief Act is being waged by the ACLU, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund and dozens of other hispanic groups. The opposition has 26 high powered lawyers being funded by the groups mentioned above along with the Chamber of Commerce and the Catholic Church.

The Democratic and Republican parties remain spineless on the issue of illegal immigration.

We must defend the rights of our local communities to repeal this invasion.
Large numbers of opposition protestors have already gathered in Scranton. Many of them are arriving in buses coming from New York City, Philadelphia, Boston and other parts of the country. We need to counter them with our own strong numbers. I strongly urge everyone that is able to attend this important rally to do so.

I cannot stress how incredibly important this court decision will be for the future of our nation. We need every single available patriot to attend.

Hope to see you in Hazleton!

Sincerely,
Michael E. Thompson

Illegal Invaders
By: Brenda , Tue, 13 Mar 2007 15:27:33 GMT

WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP!!!

Please wake up America......

If these 20+ million illegal invaders are given amnesty, they will then be able to bring in all of their family members (chain migration). This is going to turn 20+ million into 30+ million in no time!!

At that point, they are going to DEMAND the same wages/benefits as US citizens. This is going to put them in DIRECT competition with US citizens for jobs!!! Or, they will now be legal so they will be eligible for ALL social benefits---paid for by US tax payers. Anytime that they do not get their way, the ACLU and La Raza will come running with their attorneys.

US citizens must UNITE in order to save our country. Think of what kind of country you will be leaving your children and grandchildren--as this country will become a third-world nation in no time!!

UNITE and get involved. Please visit these sites!!

fire protection

The Federal Government refuses to enforce our laws concerning illegal immigration. Cities and states are feeling the damaging effect. According to the ACLU, if my house was on fire, and the fire department refuses to come out, I would have no right to use my garden hose to try to put it out. This is my house, and my country, and I DO have the right to put the fire out.

illegal aliens

We need to rid our country of these filthy, disease carrying mexicans. They bring crime and disease and are ruining our way of life .
