DETROIT, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The branding identity and implementation plan announced today by the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau intended to achieve a greater level of tourism and business-to-business commerce is a "much needed, important step toward achieving economic prosperity and a more positive reputation for Detroit and southeast Michigan," said Doug Rothwell, president, Detroit Renaissance.
"Our region has been in need of a distinct brand identity that other organizations and individuals can rally behind and reinforce in their communications locally, regionally, nationally and internationally," said Rothwell. "Detroit Renaissance strongly supports the considerable work invested by the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau to develop the branding project announced today, and the end result of its work on this is providing the region an identity that is highly distinctive, memorable and powerful.
Detroit Renaissance is a private, non-profit organization that brings together business leaders and resources to encourage and facilitate the physical and economic revitalization of Detroit and Southeast Michigan. In December 2006, Detroit Renaissance announced its "Road to Renaissance" strategic initiative that includes the formation of six task forces that focus on helping Detroit and Southeast Michigan achieve the following six objectives: 1) become the world's dominant mobility center; 2) become a global logistics hub; 3) grow Metro Detroit's creative community; 4) expand the region's entrepreneurial capacity; 5) secure a strong future talent base; and, 6) promote globally while communicating locally.
"Although Detroit remains the Motor City capital of the world, we can no longer rely solely on the automotive industry to fuel our economy," said Rothwell. "Detroit and Southeast Michigan must diversify and transform its economy and, at the same time, communicate a distinctive identity that better reflects the region's assets and offerings. The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau deserves gratitude and support as it begins implementation of this highly important branding initiative."
Detroit Renaissance works closely with the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau in the regional civic group that was announced in November 2006 called, One D: Transforming Regional Detroit. Other organizations joining the two in One D are the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Regional Chamber, New Detroit and United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
Detroit Renaissance is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed in 1970 by the region's distinguished business leaders including Henry Ford II, Max M. Fisher and A. Alfred Taubman. It is a private, non-profit organization which brings the business community's leadership and resources together to encourage and facilitate the physical and economic revitalization of Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
