ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by Lois Aronstein, AARP New York State Director:
AARP commends Governor Spitzer for selecting Angela Sparks-Beddoe to serve as the Commissioner of the New York State Public Service Commission. Sparks- Beddoe brings an exceptional background and understanding from her work in the private sector to the PSC.
Ms. Sparks-Beddoe was a leader in working to ensure that New York consumers had the options they needed when selecting energy providers under New York's energy deregulation policy, particularly protecting the ability of consumers to obtain a fixed rate from their utility. She also brings a strong understanding of consumer needs from her work with a national organization whose goal is to assure that low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families with children, live in warmth, safety, and independence.
Over the years, AARP has worked well with Ms. Sparks-Beddoe on issues affecting consumers and their energy needs. AARP looks forward to continuing our strong relationship with her to ensure the PSC is responsive to the needs of utility and energy consumers in New York State.
AARP has over 2.5 million members in New York State.
