WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To address the growing menace of methamphetamine use in American Indian communities, Lamar Associates today announced a new training initiative specifically geared toward tribal police departments to strengthen the efforts of law enforcement, social service and mental health agencies across the country.
According the federal Office of Applied Studies, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the rates of methamphetamine use are higher among Native Americans than among any other ethnic group. Additionally, over 70 percent of tribal leaders have identified meth use and its destructive aftermath as one of the biggest threats to tribal stability in the last 50 years.
"We recognize the significant threat to our communities and that we must train and prepare Indian Country to combat methamphetamine on the front line," said Steven Juneau, Director of Training for Lamar Associates. "Our training provides police departments, social services and other agencies the critical skills needed to effectively conduct investigations, gather intelligence and implement proactive drug fighting techniques."
The trainings will be conducted at the following locations: Billings, MT (January 16-18); Havre, MT (February 20-22); Eagle Butte, SD (April 10-12); Couer D'Alene, ID (May 29-31); Phoenix, AZ (August 7-9); Albuquerque, NM (October 23-25); and Oklahoma City, OK (November 13-15). Trainings can also be customized and held on-site for individual tribes.
