MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Seventy percent of adults indicate they will travel farther than 200 miles to visit family or friends during the holidays. If you are among those taking to the road, lack of sleep may impact your ability to enjoy the season. According to a recent consumer survey by Radisson Hotels & Resorts, nearly one-third of respondents say lack of privacy was the worst part of staying with relatives, while a quarter say their unhappiness is related to the bed or lack of a bed.
"If you are already stressed out by the holiday season, loss of sleep makes it all the more difficult to enjoy this time of year," said Vice President of Carlson Hotels Worldwide Marketing Peter Goldreich. "We thought it would be fun to ask people where they are sleeping during the holidays and what impacts their ability to get a good night's sleep while traveling."
The couch and the floor rank as the top two worst places to sleep. A majority of respondents report having trouble falling asleep when they are on the road and many expect to lose one to two hours a sleep each night. More than half say the actual trip is what they dread most about traveling during the holidays. Nearly 60 percent say they will likely end up sleeping in a motel, hotel or B&B this holiday season.
Another reason to avoid bunking down at the relatives may not simply be the quality of bed. It appears mom can dampen the holiday mood. Nearly half of respondents say seeing their mother during the holidays is what they enjoy least. Mothers-in-law don't fare much better at 16 percent.
Radisson recently introduced SLEEP NUMBER(R) beds at nearly 200 of its hotels in the United States, Canada and Caribbean to ensure guests achieve a more deep, restorative night sleep. Guests can customize the bed's level of firmness at a touch of a button to find their ideal SLEEP NUMBER(R) setting -- a number between 0 and 100 that represents a person's ideal level of firmness for personalized comfort, firmness and support.
"Even if your relatives offer the couch, consider a hotel," said Pete Bils, senior director of sleep innovation for Select Comfort, creator of the Sleep Number bed. "Hotels such as Radisson offer rooms that are more conducive to a good night's sleep, which will help you truly enjoy precious time with friends and family."
Radisson Hotels & Resorts(R), one of the world's leading, full-service hotel companies, offers warm and engaging genuine hospitality at every point of guest contact and is focused on being the hotel of choice with business and leisure travelers by understanding their independent mindset, changing needs and desire to have more control over their hotel experience. There are currently more than 400 Radisson locations in 64 countries.
