EMERYVILLE, Calif., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In another first, Orb Networks today announced its free MyCasting(TM) service () now allows mobile phone users to instantly find and enjoy content from popular online video sites including YouTube(TM), Google(TM), DailyMotion(TM) and Yahoo(TM).
Last month, Orb was the first to bring Internet videos to mobile devices with its MyCasting service. Now Orb users can easily search for and find Internet videos on their mobile devices and enjoy them instantly on their phone's native video player.
Carrier-based options limit mobile access to closed and/or pre-selected video content. In contrast, Orb MyCasting gives consumers access to the entire Internet, as well as their own media content stored on their home PCs. Other mobile video solutions in the news today focus on downsizing content for the mobile experience. With Orb that's not necessary.
"Most carriers, like Verizon, have the business model for mobile content all wrong," said Joe Costello, chairman and co-founder of Orb Networks. "It shouldn't be a closed environment; consumers will engage more if they have more choice. Carriers should worry about giving consumers the best possible service and leave content selection up to the customer. Why would someone want to be limited to 100 pre-selected videos, when they could have access to millions?"
Costello went on to say, "Orb isn't offering a limited version of Internet videos; MyCasting gives access to all videos instantly and gives consumers the opportunity to create their own Internet video 'channel' of selected videos directly on their mobile device to enjoy whenever they want."
How it Works: 1) Log on to your Orb account from your mobile phone's native Web browser. 2) Select the Internet video site you want to search. 3) Type your search term. That's it. Now, enjoy the Internet video channel you just created directly on your mobile device. More about Orb MyCasting
Orb MyCasting is more than just mobile Internet video. Orb unlocks the home computer, making it possible for people to organize, enjoy and share their music, photos, TV (live and pre-recorded), documents and other digital media when (time) and where (place) they want it, using the devices -- be it a mobile phone, PDA or laptop -- that they already own.
A simple download of the Orb software to an always-on Windows PC is all it takes to start MyCasting. Instantly, the Orb applications allow users to stream media feeds from their home computer to any Web-enabled mobile device with a browser and a streaming media player. No specialized mobile software or separate carrier contract is required to enjoy Internet videos on mobile.
Due to the native format of online video, very few mobile consumers could access Web-based clips on their mobile phones. MyCasting makes the process easy, by reformatting media to play on mobile devices. Orb automatically transcodes the video or audio streams into the appropriate media format, bitrate, and if necessary, screen resolution for the user's mobile phone.
