NEW YORK, NY and LONDON -- 11/07/07 --
The NewsMarket has launched a
Mandarin-language version of its award-winning video distribution platform,
enabling global marketers to provide broadcast-quality video content to the
media in local language for the first time. The launch coincides with the
initial public offering of Chinese e-commerce provider Alibaba.com, the
largest Internet public offering to date in China. Video illustrating
Alibaba's business is made available free of charge to the media at
www.thenewsmarket.com/mandarin.
Modeled on the successful global edition of The NewsMarket
(www.thenewsmarket.com), the Mandarin site will provide journalists within
China, as well as Chinese-language media worldwide, with a wealth of
broadcast quality video for use by media outlets and web sites. This new
service from The NewsMarket will allow marketers to more effectively
deliver their video content throughout the world's second largest economy.
The Mandarin site will make video content available to newsrooms across
China from international companies and local Chinese firms bringing
products to the Chinese market, as well as from leading non-profits,
institutions and government agencies seeking more direct access to Chinese
media.
Among those taking first advantage of the new Mandarin site are Rolls-Royce
plc, Volvo Ocean Race and VISA, one of the principal sponsors of the
Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. The NewsMarket expects other major clients
will shortly follow suit, given the enormous interest among marketers to
improve their communications with audiences across China. The Mandarin
site offers organizations the ability to crack the language and
communications barrier to this vibrant and growing economy.
"We are thrilled that the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will, for the first time
ever, include a stopover in China," said
Reg Gratton, Communications Director, Volvo Ocean Race. "Our partnership
with The NewsMarket means that we will be able to build better
relationships with the media in China and doing so in both English and
Mandarin is simply invaluable for us."
"With the launch of our Mandarin site, we are better positioned to serve
clients interested in reaching China as the world prepares for the 2008
Olympics in Beijing," commented Shoba Purushothaman, the company's
Co-Founder and CEO.
Even though China's major urban centers, such as Shanghai, Hong Kong, and
Macau, have large English-speaking populations and access to content
produced for Western audiences, most of the country's print and broadcast
media still provide content only in Mandarin. The NewsMarket's Mandarin
site provides companies and other video content providers with the ability
to reach an enormous segment of China's 1.3 billion population in their own
language.
"There are more than 2,000 television channels and nearly three million
websites in China, and 90% of the mainstream media organizations also have
an online presence," Ms. Purushothaman noted. "Any global brand already in
China or considering expansion really needs to have a video strategy to
make an impact, since so much of the country relies on that medium to get
its news and information. Our Mandarin-platform provides the first major
step in integrating video for any marketer looking for increased awareness
with Chinese consumers and influencers."
The introduction of its Mandarin site follows The NewsMarket's successful
launch of its first country-specific video portal for India. The Indian
site, which debuted earlier this fall as part of the successful India@60
celebrations held in New York, includes content related to business and
finance, travel and tourism, investment opportunities and consumer interest
across India. The site's introduction was part of the largest-ever
international branding campaign undertaken by the government of India.
The Mandarin site is the third new product innovation in recent weeks from
The NewsMarket. In October, the company launched BrandTV, a custom-branded
online video player offering full embed, link-to and email syndication
capabilities that allows global corporations and marketers to share video
virally. In August, the company launched VideoCafé, a video portal for
bloggers seeking content from some of the world's largest corporations,
such as Nintendo, GM, and Yahoo! -- www.thenewsmarket.com/vc/.
