SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Here's a quandary: College students are notoriously broke, but they need expensive textbooks for their classes. So, what to do? The answer is suddenly clear. Chegg, the online textbook rental company, delivers books for less money and hassle than buying textbooks at the store. And now Chegg has announced an affiliate program that pays site owners 10-12% commission when a user clicks through to Chegg.com and rents a book.
"Joining the Chegg affiliate program is the simplest way to turn site traffic into cash -- and of course add value to your site," said Osman Rashid, Chegg's CEO and Co-Founder. "We give the affiliate sites content that is valuable -- and adds another revenue stream to boot and the high commission rate ensures that partners do not lose any commissions when their users turn to renting from buying."
Jeff Sherwood, CEO of textbook comparison search engine BIGWORDS.com, a Chegg affiliate partner, explained, "We are constantly searching for ways to maximize textbook savings, and Chegg provides a clear benefit. Including Chegg's rental alternative in our price comparison is an exciting venture."
Who Joins?
Anyone with a site can participate in the Chegg Affiliate Program. Obviously, some sites are more suited to the Chegg mission than others.

-- An online bookstore seeking a textbook rental option -- A brick-and-mortar store wanting to get in on the textbook rental business -- A fraternity needing to make cash for a "kegger" -- A film student wanting a way to fund his climactic third act How's It Work? The Chegg's Affiliate Program incurs no fees or costs. 1. Sign up. Go to http://www.chegg.com/index.php/AffiliateProgram/ and give Chegg basic info such as organization name, URL, physical address, and a contact name. Affiliates pick the method to use to advertise the program. 2. Get a link tool. Affiliates choose between a hyperlink that connects to specific products in the Chegg catalog; a banner; a search box or a search API that finds rental prices. 3. Generate template HTML. Chegg provides HTML code for use on affiliate sites. 4. Cash in. Every time the site sends Chegg.com a paying customer, Chegg records the transaction. Checks are issued monthly.
Affiliate members can track their statistics by logging onto their Chegg account and accessing reports such as click-throughs and commissions -- and learn clever ways to increase sales. Partners that highlight the rental option in their comparison would make 12% commission rate whereas regular price comparisons would receive the 10% commission rate.
"If you want to give customers more options and really terrific prices for textbooks -- and grow revenue -- just go to Chegg," said Rashid.
