SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- 11/04/07 --
ICER is pleased to announce the success
of the third annual Esurance ICER AIR event. Building on the popularity of
the inaugural event on San Francisco's famed Fillmore Street hill, skiers
and snowboarders once again took on another one of San Francisco's iconic
locations, AT&T Park. Esurance ICER AIR 2007, the first big-air ski and
snowboard event held in a stadium in the United States, drew 33,000
spectators over two days for a flawless, warm, fun-filled day of snow,
music and big-air.
"Every year Esurance ICER Air evolves," said ICER Founder, Glen Griffin.
"We brought in some of the best ski and snowboard talent from around the
world -- and this year we added an action sports village adjacent to AT&T
Park -- with the best athletes from FMX, BMX and Skate. Whether they were
in the village or on the field at AT&T Park, more than 30,000 fans saw
everything from FMX dare devils soaring through the air to world-class
skiers and snowboarders throwing tricks through the ballpark's centerfield,
where homeruns are much more common."
Olympic medalists and X Games ski and snowboard champions competed on a
100-foot high jump that extended from the top of AT&T Park's scoreboard to
second base. The ski and snowboard jump was covered with over 200 tons of
man-made snow that withstood unseasonably warm temperatures in the
mid-70's. The skiers and snowboarders wowed the crowed with gravity
defying aerial maneuvers against the backdrop of the Bay Bridge and San
Francisco skyline on a crystal clear day. Jon Olsson claimed the big-air
ski title with his signature, and crowd pleasing, kangaroo flip. Simon
Dumont slid into a close a second with a huge corked 1080; Sammy Carlson
finished third with a sick switch 10.
In the snowboarding competition, Travis Rice reclaimed his champion 2006
title, taking first with a near perfect double corked 10. Tim Humphreys
finished in second with a switch frontside 9 and Chas Guldemond took third
with a back side 1080.
The day also featured headliner bands Talib Kweli and Mos Def. 1998 Olympic
Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley hosted the event and thrilled the crowd with
multiple jumps including the old school, berumuda shorts iron cross cossack
back scratcher.
