FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- An Arlington couple is suing Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth after the hospital gave the mother the wrong medicine during pregnancy and her newborn daughter and son died.
Claudia Owusu-Ansah, 31, was pregnant with the twins and experiencing contractions when she was admitted to the hospital in March 2007. The treating doctor prescribed Magnesium Sulfate in an attempt to stop the contractions. A hospital nurse later gave Ms. Owusu-Ansah a drug called Pitocin, which sometimes is administered to induce labor.
On March 7, 2007, Christine Boaitey was born, but later died. Ms. Owusu-Ansah remained hospitalized, still pregnant with the second child. Eight days later an emergency cesarean section was preformed at Baylor All Saints. The second child, Christian Boaitey, also was born alive but died.
"There is nothing in this world that compares to the loss of a child, and for Claudia to lose both her babies is just devastating," says attorney John David Hart of the Law Offices of John David Hart in Fort Worth, counsel for the children's parents. "Our hope is that we can do something to prevent this sort of deadly mistake from happening again.
