RESTON, Va., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- ARTEL, Inc., a global leader in information technology and managed network services, today announced it has been awarded a three year $2.3 million contract with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in Rockville, MD. This award is a follow-on to a contract that ARTEL had previously won in 2003. The latest contract was open to all bidders and no special status considerations were used in the awarding process.
"External threats to our nation's most critical assets are always growing and increasing in complexity," said Dennis J. Hotetz, ARTEL's deputy director for IA Services. "This follow-on contract acknowledges the outstanding protection that ARTEL has provided the NRC during the past four years and increases the scope of our support in the future."
Under the terms of the contract, ARTEL will provide Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP) for the NRC's Office of Information Services (OIS). ARTEL will create security policies and assure that all NRC networks comply with the Federal Information System Management Act (FISMA). ARTEL will also conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, while focusing on hardening standards for operating systems and applications.
By some estimates, hundreds of new software vulnerabilities and new viruses are identified each month. ARTEL provides a full range of solutions that safeguard information and assure its availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality and non-repudiation, on a global basis, in real-time, over diverse systems and platforms. At the NRC, ARTEL CISSPs are contracted to stay at the customer site and provide maintenance for all security-related intranet web pages.
Because regulatory guidelines and security guides represent the minimum level of security that an enterprise should implement, ARTEL recommends and encourages clients to adopt policies and solutions that exceed the minimum requirements needed to satisfy regulations. To realize the benefits of enhanced security, ARTEL has established methodologies to measure risk from external and internal threats and implements the security configuration standards needed to minimize those risks.
