SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- 08/29/07 --
The West Coast Green Residential Building
Conference & Expo announced today that it has partnered with lighting
leader OSRAM SYLVANIA to distribute two thousand free compact fluorescent
light bulbs during its popular "Homeowner Day" (September 22nd) at the Bill
Graham Civic Auditorium in downtown San Francisco.
At last year's West Coast Green Conference, 2,000 participants pledged to
replace an incandescent light bulb in their home with a compact fluorescent
bulb (CFL). Each pledge then left the event with a complimentary CFL in
tow, enabling the reduction of over 1.6 million pounds of CO2 emissions in
the Bay Area.
The light bulbs, donated by SYLVANIA as part of the Energy Star Change a
Light program, use 1/4 the energy of a standard incandescent light bulb.
Each recipient is limited to one bulb and is asked to pledge that they will
replace an incandescent bulb with their new compact fluorescent bulb.
"Switching to these bulbs in the home saves energy and reduces air
pollution from power plants. And homeowners will see lower electric bills,
since CFLs use 1/4 of the energy of a standard incandescent bulb," said
Jennifer Dolin, Environmental Marketing Manager, for SYLVANIA.
"What we love about the ENERGY STAR program is that is both impacting and
simple," said Christi Graham, Executive Producer for West Coast Green.
"Participation in the program requires very little effort. If every Bay
Area resident changed just one light bulb in their home, together we would
save over 846 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 1.3 billion pounds
of greenhouse gas emissions. That's the equivalent of removing over 20,000
cars from the road."
