LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent Zogby International poll question conducted for Associated Television News found that 66% of the American voting public in a recent poll of 1,020 Americans from August 8-11, 2007 (margin of error of +/- 3.1%) found that the American public rejects the notion that new gun control laws are needed.

The poll asked: "Which of the following two statements regarding gun control comes closer to your own opinion? Statement A: There needs to be new and tougher gun control legislation to help in the fight against gun crime. Statement B: There are enough laws on the books. What is needed is better enforcement of current laws regarding gun control.
Conversely, only 31% of the American public think new and tougher gun control legislation are needed.
A majority of voters who support enforcement of gun laws already on the books exists virtually across all demographic groups and in all regions of the country with the only exception being Asian and liberal voters.

What happened to option C: There are too many gun laws on the books now, the only one necessary is the 2nd amendment to the constitution.

It doesn't take a rocket scientest to figure out that control laws only effect law abiding firearms owners. I live in Crook county, IL. We have so many draconian gun laws that are not inforced. The jails are full, the local, county and state doesn't have the money to prosecute or to support criminals in the jails, so they just confiscate their weapons and set them lose to buy more weapons on the street illegally.
Meanwhile John-Q-public law abiding citizen is denied that means to protect themselves against the very criminals that the prosecuters are turning lose on us and are instead turned into criminals by their elected officials by passing more vague and ambiguous laws that the average firearms owner wouldn't know if they were in compliance or not, because the idiots that drafted the laws don't know a feakin thing about firearms, the Constitution or the fact that most firearms owners have their heads screwed on straighter that their elected officials.
Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Push folks don't give a damn about the people they are suppose to be supporting. All Jackson cares about is air time. More air time that Sharpton. So any cause will do as long as he gets air time. Screw the citizens of Riverdale, IL. he doesn't care that the town is strapped for money and every time he shows up to protest "Chuck's Gun Shop" it cost them $3,500.00 for protection the Rev. All for the national exposure.
Perhaps The Rev. Jesse should read and study his American history with a little more thought to the words that are written in the "Declaration of Independence" and the "Constitution."
As Forest Gump would say
"That's all I have to say about that."

No New Gun Laws

It is OBVIOUS that we do NOT need more gun laws. I have to fight and fight with LAW ENFORCEMENT, to get them to arrest murderers, rapists, child molesters, etc., even though there are laws against these crimes. The
news media keeps asking citizens to call authorities if they have information about these criminals, yet it is almost impossible to get action.
My point is that gun laws are NOT going to do anything, except be another law that is NEVER enforced, unless some powerful person wants to FRAME an innocent person. (Like ALL of those innocent people we keep finding in prison.)
Lets FORCE the government to STOP corruption in the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies!! Then we need to arrest people for the crimes being committed. It is then, and ONLY then, that we can determine if any types of NEW laws are actually necessary!!!
