BOISE, Idaho, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Students from across the state head back to school today. But rather than heading to the bus stop, more than 2,400 Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) students in grades K-11 will log on to their computers to access their individualized learning programs using the innovative K12 curriculum and materials.
IDVA is an innovative, tuition-free public school in which students learn outside the traditional classroom and receive instruction and guidance from certified public school teachers "virtually."
"Teachers, students and their families are all eager for the school year to begin," says Cody Claver, IDVA Head of School. "Our school is entering its sixth academic year and we are excited about continuing to deliver an excellent education to students all across the state."
On August 6, 2007, The Idaho Virtual Academy recently received a letter of commendation from the Idaho Public Charter School Commission. The letter, which came from Tamara Baysinger, the Commission's Charter Schools Program Manager, reads:
"On behalf of the Idaho Public Charter School Commission, it is my
pleasure to commend your exceptional work in monitoring and responding to
the academic needs of your students, as well as your dedication to
providing the best possible service to families enrolled at your school.
Your ongoing commitment to effective virtual education in Idaho was
evident in your recent report to the Commission, and your efforts are
deeply appreciated."
Claver credited the school's success to the hard work and dedication of the Idaho Virtual Academy teachers, parents and students, along with the service of the IDVA Board of Directors and the school's partnership with K12 Inc.
Over the past couple of weeks, IDVA students have been receiving boxes full of traditional education materials shipped to their home. Items included books, workbooks, classical stories, science supplies, maps, art books, instruments, music CDs and much more.
Students access their daily lessons, progress and planning tools and assessments through the powerful K12 Online School. Students receive a computer and printer on loan from the school.
