CHANTILLY, VA, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- AMEC, the international project management and services company, has been awarded a five-year contract worth up to $40 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a variety of flood map modernization services in FEMA Region III (Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C.). The contract is the largest ever awarded to AMEC by FEMA.
Under the contract, which replaces an expiring $10 million Region III contract, AMEC will provide digital flood insurance rate map (DFIRM) production, hydrologic and hydraulic floodplain modeling, coastal flooding analyses, community floodplain ordinance reviews and updates, multi-hazard risk analyses, and post-disaster support. The contract also can potentially be used to support FEMA in states outside of Region III.
In the event of a disaster in Region III, the AMEC team can be called upon for expertise in the development of disaster recovery maps and responding to multiple hazards through this contract and two other nationwide post-disaster contracts for FEMA. The team has advanced expertise in the region to address specialized flood risk situations such as flooding from debris blockage, ice jams, dam breaks, and levee overtopping and failure.
AMEC is a leading provider in the U.S. of flood-hazard identification and mapping, multi-hazard mitigation, and post disaster recovery services to state and local governments and FEMA. In addition to Region III, AMEC also provides FEMA map modernization services for cooperating technical state partners in Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota and Utah.
