RUSSELLVILLE, Ark., July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- David Ragsdale knows when something is built to last.
An antique collector and restorer of vintage automobiles, the owner of Ragsdale Insurance in Russellville took a chance on a new workers' compensation carrier that entered Arkansas 10 years ago -- and it's paying off in a big way.
Ragsdale is among three independent agents and a host of others that will benefit from $100,000 of donations that Omaha-based FirstComp Insurance is pouring into Arkansas charitable organizations. FirstComp is donating $10,000 to the chosen charity of 10-year partners such as Ragsdale.
"The thing I have liked about FirstComp over the years is they bend over backwards to take care of smaller agencies," said Ragsdale, who has placed more than $300,000 of business with FirstComp. "They are not trying to be some gigantic company that only caters to big agencies."
FirstComp swept awards from the state's insurance associations this year, being named Carrier of the Year by both the Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas and the Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas. "We have seen a lot of companies come and go," Ragsdale said. "FirstComp's stability has been huge."
As part of celebrating 10 years of workers' compensation business in its first state, FirstComp is increasing donations to charitable organizations in Arkansas-bringing total contributions on behalf of 10-year partners to $100,000.
The company announced Wednesday it is donating $20,000 to the Little Rock-based Kids' Chance of Arkansas Scholarship Fund. Kids' Chance provides scholarships to children of Arkansas workers who died or were permanently or totally disabled in a job-related accident.
It was announced earlier that FirstComp will donate $10,000 each to the chosen charities of Ragsdale Insurance of Russellville, Buffalo Insurance of Cabot and Campbell & Co. Insurance in Morrilton-all 10-year business partners of FirstComp. The company also is donating $10,000 to Barnes Heat and Air Repair in Russellville and to owner Emmitt Barnes' chosen charity, as well as $10,000 to the Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas, the Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas and the Arkansas Children's Hospital.
The date and time of FirstComp's 10-Year Recognition ceremony has been changed to noon Friday, July 27 at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Fayetteville.
