WAYNE, NJ -- 07/18/07 --
Vision Research, a leading manufacturer of
high-speed digital imaging systems, today introduced a significant firmware
upgrade to its popular Phantom® V7.3 digital high-speed camera that
allows users to capture an amazing 500,000 pictures-per-second. The
upgrade, called "turbo mode," will be available in August 2007.
By upgrading the Phantom V7.3's firmware, Vision Research's engineers now
give the camera two operating modes. In standard mode, users can capture
images between 6,700 fps and 190,000 fps, depending upon resolution, and
can adjust exposure programmable up to 1/frame-rate. With the "turbo mode"
set-up file, the Phantom V7.3 can acquire images up to 500,000 fps at a
resolution of 32x16 and with a fixed 1 microsecond exposure time.
Additional high-speed frame rates are available at other resolutions. Users
can easily switch between the camera's turbo and standard modes by using a
new version of the Phantom software that comes packaged with each camera.
"Engineering is a discipline of making trade-offs," said Andy Jantzen,
President and co-founder of Vision Research. "In the Phantom V7.3, we are
giving our users access to these trade-offs so they can decide how to best
configure the camera for their application. Our unique Phantom camera
architecture allows us to do this."
