CHICAGO, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of Chicago's popular lakefront global warming exhibition, "CoolGlobes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet" opened today at Sears Tower featuring Mini CoolGlobes created and signed by celebrities including Sheryl Crow, Tobey Maguire, Chris O'Donnell and Adam Sandler, and politicians such as former Vice President Al Gore, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. John McCain, Sen. Joe Lieberman, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Celebrities and politicians decorated the basketball-sized Mini CoolGlobes provided to them for the Sears Tower exhibit in order to continue raising the public's level of environmental awareness. The series of 40 celebrity Mini CoolGlobes joins an array of eight full-sized CoolGlobes at Sears Tower, like the more than 100 large globes appearing along the lakefront from The Field Museum north to Navy Pier.
"As the premier office building and Chicago tourist destination, Sears Tower is proud to be a major display site for the CoolGlobes project this summer. Sears Tower regularly looks for ways to increase recycling efforts and reduce energy consumption, such as replacing incandescent light bulbs with fluorescents and installing new computerized control systems to better manage the use of energy throughout the building," said Thomas Dempsey, vice president and general manager of Sears Tower.
Blue Man Group placed their three Mini CoolGlobes on display in their case, "signing" them with a blue handprint, to officially open the exhibit on June 27.
CoolGlobes at Sears Tower are on display at both the Skydeck entrance on Jackson Boulevard and in the Wacker Drive lobbies from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sundays all summer. The Sears Tower Skydeck observatory is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through September.
"CoolGlobes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet" unites corporations, government, non-profit organizations and the community at large to increase awareness of and simple solutions to global warming through public art, Internet information, education and events. The city-wide CoolGlobes exhibit, which runs through September 2007, features more than 100 sculpted globes - each five feet in diameter -- displayed at the Sears Tower and along Chicago's lakefront.
The city of Chicago is hosting this innovative public art project from June through September 2007 to inspire individuals and organizations to take action against global warming. Visitors to CoolGlobes are challenged to implement five changes in their daily life or business operations to combat global warming. Pledges can be made at the CoolGlobes web site (http://www.coolglobes.com/).
