PITTSBURGH, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- A major Pennsylvania emergency response group has selected ThreatViewer(TM) for use in security operations across the Pittsburgh region and western Pennsylvania. Augusta Systems(R) ThreatViewer is an integrated security product that provides remote monitoring capabilities in military, industrial and homeland security efforts.
"Because of the size of our region and the complexities involved in security operations, we need state-of-the-art technologies that can bolster the efforts of our emergency response personnel. These technologies must be advanced, but easily utilized for rapid deployment," said Chief Robert Full, emergency management coordinator for Allegheny County and chairman of Pennsylvania Region 13 Working Group. "ThreatViewer fits the bill. It provides us with a powerful monitoring system that can be readily deployed, as needed, for high-security events or incidents."
Region 13 is a regional anti-terrorism and emergency response consortium consisting of 13 counties in western Pennsylvania and the City of Pittsburgh. The group, covering nearly 10,000 square miles and a population of more than 3 million, enables a regionally coordinated system for emergency response and security operations.
"Region 13 selected ThreatViewer because of its flexibility," said Patrick Esposito, president and chief operating officer of Augusta Systems, Inc. "ThreatViewer can be configured to provide whatever visual or sensor data is most needed by security personnel, and it can be deployed wherever it is most useful to security operations."
ThreatViewer is an Augusta Systems integrated security product that features multiple sensing options, including sensors with panoramic imaging, pan-tilt-zoom camera, infrared imaging, gas detection, temperature measurement and humidity measurement features, among other options. ThreatViewer systems generally consist of multiple ThreatViewer Sensor System Packages consisting of advanced sensors and intelligent wireless network components, a ThreatViewer Server for centralized data storage and processing, and ThreatViewer Display Center software packages optimized for use on rugged laptop computers and within operations centers. ThreatViewer can be utilized as a stand-alone security system or integrated with other security systems or assets.
Multiple ThreatViewer systems, optimized for use by Region 13, feature 360-degree imaging technologies, image data processing capabilities and wireless communications capabilities. The 360-degree imaging technologies will enable Region 13 personnel to "see" in all directions at once from a given location.
These features will enable security personnel to deploy multiple ThreatViewer systems wherever needed to remotely monitor a location or situation in real time, as ThreatViewer captures and processes surveillance data and transmits it to personnel at operations centers and in the field. ThreatViewer will be utilized in conjunction with the Allegheny County Mobile Command Center throughout Region 13.
"As threats become more complex, local emergency management officials are becoming more technologically savvy. Utilizing ThreatViewer and the Allegheny County mobile command center, we'll be able to rapidly deploy some of the most advanced monitoring and communications technologies available to local emergency responders. In fact, we'll have one of the most advanced mobile operations systems in the country. This is an operational advantage for us, which benefits the people of the region," added Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato.
ThreatViewer can assist security and emergency response personnel in urban and homeland security, public safety, law enforcement, port and border security, national defense and industrial monitoring applications, among others. ThreatViewer was recently selected by Allegheny Energy to provide remote monitoring and perimeter security capabilities at an electricity substation. It was utilized to provide critical infrastructure security during 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game events in Pittsburgh. It is also being used in projects related to military facility protection, maritime security, and other applications.
