HARRISBURG, Pa., June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Philadelphia and Pittsburgh nonprofit organizations that are at a high risk of being attacked by terrorists are running out of time to apply for a grant from the Urban Areas Security Initiative Nonprofit Security Grant Program, Pennsylvania's Office of Homeland Security and its Emergency Management Agency reminded today.
Grant applications must be electronically submitted to PEMA at nsgp@state.pa.us no later than Monday, June 11. Applications received after that date will not be considered. To obtain an application or find more information, visit http://www.pema.state.pa.us/.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security grants are available to 501C(3) nonprofit organizations that are deemed at high-risk of a potential international terrorist attack. Grant awards can total up to $100,000. Organizations that receive a grant are required to match 25 percent of federal grant funds in cash or through equivalent, related training. claims) of prior threats or attacks against the nonprofit organization
or directly related organizations (within or outside the U.S.) by a
terrorist organization, network, or cell;
-- Symbolic value of the site(s) as a highly recognized national or
historical institution that renders the site a possible target of
terrorism;
-- Role of the applicant nonprofit organization in responding to or
recovering from terrorist attacks; or
-- Findings from previously conducted risk assessments including threat,
vulnerability or consequence.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security -- designated Urban Areas Security Initiative nonprofits eligible to apply are in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and their surrounding counties, including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bucks, Butler, Cambria, Chester, Delaware, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Montgomery, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland.
