SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Assemblyman Lloyd Levine stated in the Assembly Judiciary Committee Hearing on Assembly Bill 374, March 27, 2007 in response to a question about doctor shopping and assisted suicide:
If you have something wrong with your foot you see a podiatrist, something
wrong with your heart you go to your cardiac doctor ... you are finding
somebody that specializes in proper care.
As a result of finding those that specialize in proper care, AB 374 and assisted suicide legalization will create not one, but hundreds of Jack Kevorkians. While the fatal delivery method may be different, the doctor's role is still the same.
According to H. Rex Greene M.D., former hospice director and member of the California Medical Association ethical affairs committee testimony to legislators, April 11, 2005:
It is worrisome that a handful of Oregon physicians provide lethal
prescriptions. One of them, an award winning advisor to Compassion in
Dying recently acknowledged that she was involved in over 100 deaths.
Another [Dr. Peter Rasmussen] said that he makes his dispositions over the
phone.
Assisted Suicide has consistently been opposed by California Medical Association, California Disability Alliance, the California League of United Latin American Citizens, California Hospice and Palliative Care Association and dozens of statewide organizations representing disability rights, low income workers, and the uninsured.
