PHILADELPHIA, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- With "The Gross Clinic," Thomas Eakins' masterpiece, securely at home in Philadelphia, The College of Physicians of Philadelphia last week recognized a group of individuals who made significant contributions to keeping the painting in its rightful place.
At the group's annual College Night on May 24, the College of Physicians awarded 10 of the inaugural "Samuel D. Gross/Thomas Eakins Award for Significant Contributions to Medicine and its Surrounding Culture" to individuals whose efforts and support ensured the funds to share "The Gross Clinic" between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
The first-ever recipients of this award, which is given at the discretion of the College's Board of Trustees, are:
