SPRINGVILLE, Utah - (Business Wire) Springville Police Department held an awards ceremony this evening as their celebration of National Police Week. In addition to honoring several officers for a job well done, the department named their
“Business of the Year
” and
“Citizens of the Year
” recipients.
Neways International was named the Business of the Year. Police officers chose Neways because of their support for the community. In making his presentation, Police Chief Scott Finlayson recognized just a portion of their contributions. “Neways has been a great member of our community since they located their headquarters in Springville.” He noted their contributions to the local CERT team, to state and county law enforcement, and to Springville City. “They have supported some great family activities with their Summer Concert Series and the Movies in the Park. They have also contributed greatly with sponsorship of the Annual All-State Utah High School Art Exhibition, and support of the Miss Springville-Mapleton pageant. Neways is a great partner in our community.”
Citizens of the Year were named as well. Harold and Brigitte Wing were overwhelmingly chosen by the officers for their continued generous support of the Department of Public Safety, and of the city as a whole. “We realize that this award pales in comparison to the support we have enjoyed from the Wings. Still, it is our hope that they will know how greatly the members of the Department of Public Safety appreciate them.”
Five employees were awarded the “Distinguished Service Citation” for their efforts in saving the life of a Spanish Fork man. According to the doctor in the emergency room, the officers on scene literally kept the man alive long enough for the doctors to revive him. The man and his wife were also in attendance at the ceremony. The five employees were Sgt. Warren Foster, Officer Nathan Brimhall, Officer Raymond Flores, Officer Owen Leatham and Dispatcher Ruth Bybee.
Other awards given were; the Chief’s Service Award, given to Corporal Gary Carter for his efforts with children who are victims of crime, and a Good Conduct/Meritorious Service Award, given to Sgt. Reed Esklund for his efforts to combat gang graffiti.
