ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - (Business Wire) Television-style game shows featuring the two presidential candidates were unveiled today by 7.TV, LLC, a new broadband TV game show company. The two competing games culminate in a live national TV game show at 9:30 p.m. (EST) Nov. 3, the night before the election.
The highest scoring game qualifier will win the POTUS44 Experience – round trip tickets, hotel accommodation, $1,000 in Restaurant.com gift certificates, and tickets for two to the January 2009 inauguration of the 44th President of the United States.
The two game shows are available for free on the Internet. They can be seen at www.ObamaGameShow.com and www.McCainGameShow.com.
When registered players answer questions, they collect “POTUS” points. By collecting at least 200,000 POTUS points, players qualify for the Nov. 3 broadband TV game show finale, live on www.7.tv. An average player can accumulate 200,000 points by playing less than two hours.
Each POTUS site provides direct links to the candidates’ actual sites, and also provides a Google search screen to help players check their work. Players can chat with, and compete against, others playing the game in real time, and each one-hour game can be repeated.
“Most Americans are wrapped up in this competitive election, but many of us are losing focus on what’s really important – one of these men will be the next President,” said Frank S. Maggio, founder and CEO of 7.TV and the game show platform’s creator. “Regardless of the winner, we all must unite quickly after the election, because our toughest times are likely to still be ahead of us.”
Americans of voting age who have broadband Internet access may register and play free games that test their knowledge of past (and future) presidents. The games promise to elevate players’ knowledge of both candidates while reinforcing the importance of America’s top office. The games are only available online.
Both games are built on the “ReacTV®” game show platform which was first introduced in 2006 on a cable TV network by the same name.
The games use U.S. patented technology. Each game asks questions about the user’s favorite 2008 candidate, offers questions about past presidents, and incorporate actual campaign commercials.
The games are generally positive in their messages.
“There’s enough negativity already in the media,” Maggio said. “It’s time we put the fun back into the political process.”
According to Maggio, the game shows are bipartisan. No advertising dollars from either party have been accepted to date, though the possibility remains for one or both candidates to participate.
“We see these two game shows more as a proof of concept than anything else – 7.TV believes that fun, positive and challenging games can be built around any brand, which can elevate and promote a connection between consumers and brands,” Maggio said. “After all, Obama and McCain, and even the office of President, are important brands. Games about brands that directly connect them to their consumers are a critical component of the next generation of TV, online, and console game shows.”
