LINCOLN, Neb. - (Business Wire) Looking for a way to stand out in the crowd? Do you want to show your support for the Huskers every day? The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has partnered with Nebraska.gov to make it easier to order a message plate for your vehicle. Now Nebraskans can go online at
https://www.nebraska.gov/dmv/splate to create and order a unique license plate.
“I think people are going to enjoy this product because it allows an individual to design his or her own message plate,” said Beverly Neth, Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. “Most of the time when you’re interacting with the DMV, it’s because you’re required to. In this case, it’s because you want to.”
Approximately 6,000 message plate and 1,000 Husker Spirit plate applications are processed every year. Now, instead of going to the DMV office to sign up for a message plate, the user can do it from any computer with Internet access.
“We review all message plate applications to confirm that they comply with the statutory requirement that a message be neither obscene nor offensive,” said Betty Johnson, Driver and Vehicle Records Administrator. “We will be conducting the same review within the online process. If the requested message meets the statutory criteria, we’ll send the applicant an e-mail that the plate has been ordered.”
With the addition of the specialty plates program, the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles continues to add online services for its customers.
"I am pleased that we were able to launch this application so closely after the launch of our online reinstatement process,” said Neth. "The DMV is committed to expanding its online services and with the help of our partner, Nebraska.gov, we are making great strides."
