Social Networking Web Site Unites 3,500 Navy Moms MILLINGTON, Tenn., July 28
MILLINGTON, Tenn., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, recently-launched social
networking Web site NAVYForMoms.com celebrates the arrival of its 3,500th
member. NAVYForMoms.com continues to grow quickly, averaging more than 25 new
members each day.
In March 2008, the U.S. Navy Recruiting Command launched NAVYForMoms.com
in response to research that found many parents have questions about what life
in the Navy is really like, and are searching for candid answers from parents
who have experienced it firsthand.
NAVYForMoms.com puts potential Navy parents in touch with parents of young
men and women who are already serving. The online community gives prospective
Navy moms a place to gather accurate information, share stories and gain
support from their peers.
"NAVYForMoms.com has become a valuable resource for potential Navy
parents, as well as an online gathering spot for current Navy moms," said Rear
Adm. Robin Braun, Deputy Commander, Navy Recruiting Command. "We highly
encourage everyone to take a look at the website to view this powerful online
community. The site has enabled many strong friendships and support groups to
develop and provided a place where potential Navy parents can get information.
Its success is a true testament to the value of such a community."
Janice Fry, 57, of Birmingham, Ala., joined NAVYForMoms.com after her son
Patrick, 24, enlisted in November 2007.
"NAVYForMoms.com has been an incredible part of my life since my son's
entry into the Navy," Fry said. "The site is a lifesaver, connecting me with
moms across the country who share the same thoughts, hopes and dreams for our
children in the Navy."
Members have formed more than 250 groups, from Boot Camp Moms to a Moms'
Cookbook Group. As the site approaches its fifth month, more than 200,000
viewers have visited the site, with 2.5 million pages read. Members continue
to share their lives with one another: more than 11,500 photos have been
uploaded and hundreds of new discussion topics added to the site.
