WASHINGTON, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Texas Securities Commissioner Denise Voigt Crawford will mark the approach of the one-year anniversary of the unraveling of the Madoff Ponzi scheme by outlining reforms to the financial services regulatory system required to better protect investors, at a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, in the Bloomberg Room, 13th floor, National Press Building, 529 14th St., N.W., Washington, D.C.

Crawford, president of the North American Securities Administrators Association, has advocated for investor protection during congressional testimony. At the Newsmaker, she will assert that state securities officials have the will and ability to regulate, which contrasts sharply with the legacy of federal regulatory failures.
NASAA supports reform proposals under consideration by the Senate and House to increase state regulatory authority over investment advisers and subject stockbrokers who provide investment advice to the highest standard of care for their clients. Crawford will address the impact of these and other reform proposals on Main Street investors.
Crawford is a member of the board of directors of the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and has served on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Global Markets Advisory Committee, the State Bar of Texas Securities Law Committee, as well as the Consumer Advisory Council of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
