Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 21, 2009 -- The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) joined with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other key partners to release a landmark report, “Promoting Clinical Preventive Services for Adults 50-64: Community and Clinical Partnerships. The report was released at the annual conference of the Gerontological Society of America.
“We are delighted to be a part of the release of this important report and pleased that NACDD Board member, Paula Clayton, served on the Steering Committee that developed this easily-referenced resource for better addressing key health issues for older adults,” said John Robitscher, NACDD Executive Director.
As a national public health association linking the chronic disease program directors of each state and U.S. territory, NACDD is actively involved in efforts to educate policymakers and individuals about healthy aging efforts and related issues and concerns. Its Healthy Aging Council links state and territorial officials in a national forum for the promotion of healthy aging through public health action.
“This report will help to support the efforts of our Healthy Aging Council and provide additional guidance for effectively linking community and clinical partners to ensure that recommended services are reaching those they are designed to benefit,” said Robitscher.
The report identifies a core set of routinely recommended preventive services, delineates successful strategies to promote and facilitate their delivery in community settings, and provides both national and state-by-state data to monitor progress in ensuring these services reach middle-aged adults.
While supporting health care providers’ pivotal role in service delivery, the report also recognizes that the health care system cannot bear sole responsibility and points to the valuable role and underused capacity of community-based organizations in helping to expand access points for services.
