STUDIO CITY, Calif. - (Business Wire) The Board of Trustees of the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans (MPIPHP) today announced that David B. Wescoe will join the organization as its executive administrative director effective December 1, 2009. He currently serves the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS) as administrator and chief executive officer. Wescoe will transition into his new role over the next several months, overlapping positions with Thomas A. Zimmerman, retiring executive administrative director who will leave MPIPHP in June 2010. Zimmerman has served the organization as its director since 1998.
Board Co-chair George A. Palazzo said, “David stood out in a very competitive national field of highly-qualified candidates. Under his leadership and vision, SDCERS has become a model of best practices for public pension plans across the country in the areas of governance, finance, investments, information technology and member services. We needed a person of that caliber to fill the shoes of Tom Zimmerman who has provided exemplary leadership during his 11-year tenure. We are very grateful that David is joining our team.”
“I am honored to join MPIPHP,” Wescoe comments. “Tom Zimmerman and the Board have built a great organization that supports the financial security of the dedicated employees in the motion picture industry. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to build on this important work.”
Wescoe has a law degree from Columbia Law School in New York and a comprehensive background in finance and investment management. He was selected from a field of top candidates presented by one of the world’s premier executive search firms, Heidrick & Struggles.
The Motion Picture Industry Pension Plan, the Motion Picture Industry Individual Account Plan, and the Motion Picture Industry Health Plan are three separate multi-employer, multi-union, Taft-Hartley, labor/management trust funds governed by ERISA. These multi-billion dollar entities were each established over 50 years ago by collective bargaining agreements between many of the unions and employers in the motion picture production industry. Today, these trusts, which include both defined benefit and defined contribution profit sharing plans, and health and welfare benefits, are primarily supported by employer contributions. Each is governed by a Board of Directors which equally represents the participating unions and employers. Approximately 230 Plan employees administer the benefits for over 121,000 Participants located on both the east and west coasts of the United States, with offices in Studio City, Calif., and New York City, N.Y.
SDCERS is a trust fund administered by the Board of Administration for three plan sponsors: The City of San Diego, the San Diego Unified Port District and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
