SAN DIEGO - (Business Wire) Mentor Capital, Inc.'s (Pink Sheets:MNTR) major investee, Quantum Immunologics, reported significant advances in its recent Quarterly Conference Call. Mentor Capital value closely tracks its significant investment in this Florida-based private company now in Phase I/II FDA-authorized trials testing the safety and efficacy of its breast cancer immunotherapy treatment. Quantum CEO, Chuck Broes, reported to shareholders that the company is well on its way to adding its second of multiple planned cancer treatment laboratories to reduce the risk of trial delay because of any singular equipment or personnel failure. The multi-site cancer laboratory approach also more readily handles the larger influx of oncology patients into trials as additional medical investigators sign on to participate in the emerging immunotherapy program. The associated research by the distinguished science team has resulted in the filing by Quantum of two new provisional patent applications. These add to Quantum's one approved, one pending and one provisional patent from the University of South Alabama. The new provisional applications, if approved, will extend the related patent pool already covering a range of unique cancer detection, dendritic immunotherapy and antibody cancer treatments. The Mentor Capital investee has also attracted the attention of nationally recognized cancer research hospitals, universities and organizations that now have expressed an interest in collaborations. One joint venture is in negotiation and two other organizations have made contact with management in this direction. Some of these possible collaborations, themselves, have the potential to feed into new and separate venture partner-funded FDA trials for other cancer lines. A key attraction for outside researchers is that Quantum's exclusive licenses or patents cover the identification and use of Oncofetal Antigen - Immature Laminin Receptor (OFA) to treat cancer, and the OFA protein has been found to be expressed on hundreds of various cancer lines. The timing of these potential future partner-funded FDA authorized trials would dovetail well with the current Phase I/II breast cancer trial. Clinical treatments in that FDA authorized trial are proceeding as planned, and the science and research team is on track to complete the successive injection cycles for all twenty-seven Stage IV breast cancer patients in early 2010. The first quarterly evaluative report would then be available for publication ninety days later.
