OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- 11/02/09 --
Ken Georgetti, Canadian Labour Congress President, will appear before the Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday, November 3 regarding the Canada Pension Plan Provisions of Bill C-51, The Economic Recovery Act. The proposed legislation would implement provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament in January 2009.
The CLC believes that the CPP is a key platform for the income security of Canadians in retirement, and has proposed to phase in a doubling of CPP benefits to create a much improved public pension system for our children. Georgetti says that major improvements to the CPP and other matters related to pension security should be the subject of a national pension forum.
