EmPact study on PubMed search engine shows cardiorespiratory benefits

The randomized, placebo-controlled study found that athletes consuming EmPact experienced a statistically significant increase in a value used to measure cardiorespiratory fitness. The study can be found via the search engine PubMed Central. Only quality, peer-reviewed journals are listed by PubMed Central. The 2006 study concluded that the Mannatech sports supplement could "provide meaningful practical applications for coaches and athletes, alike, regarding possible alternative hydration options" prior to aerobic workouts. The study was initially published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (Byars A., et.al., 3(1):56-59, 2006).

Twenty-four volunteers, consisting of 12 men and 12 women, participated in the study. The participants performed two, one-hour oxygen consumption tests on motor-driven treadmills. Twenty minutes prior to each exercise trial, the participants were given either a placebo (flavored water) or EmPact.
Participants were able to increase their bodies' ability to use or consume oxygen for aerobic metabolism during exercise by 15.5 percent after consuming EmPact, according to the study.
EmPact, which is part of Mannatech's performance nutrition line of nutritional products, is a citrus-flavored, preworkout sports supplement formulated with fructose to help furnish biochemicals that can increase oxygen uptake capacity.* Unlike some sports drinks, EmPact does not contain sucrose, which can trigger the release of insulin.
