LAFAYETTE, Calif. - (Business Wire) The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. (JLOEB) is teaming up with CounterBurger (http://www.thecounterburger.com) of Walnut Creek and Black Diamond Brewing Company (http://www.bdbrewing.com) of Concord for a unique opportunity to give back to the community. Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make a Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. This is the Leagues second time working as part of the Make a Difference Day efforts.

Make a Difference

On Wednesday, October 22, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. CounterBurger will donate 15 percent of the sales from food and beverages, and 75 percent of sales from Black Diamond Brewing Company beer purchased at the Make a Burger, Make a Brew, Make a Difference event directly to the Leagues Annual Fund. The first $2,000 will go directly to the Maridel M. Moulton Sustainability Fund, the Leagues perpetual source of funds providing financial support to the Alameda and Contra Costa county communities in support of causes, programs and institutions of a benevolent and educational nature focusing on children.

When you can combine premium burgers, handcrafted, award-winning ales and the incredible talent of the Junior League with a common goal of impacting the community in which we live, its an experience not to be missed, said Tricia Stenger, JLOEB President.

During the evening, Derek Smith, award-winning Brewmaster from Black Diamond Brewing, will talk about what it takes to make a great beer; CounterBurger GM Rick Betance, an industry veteran with experience at restaurants across the country, will focus on how to build a great burger. The event is open to the general public, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no admission price. Working on this special event with a community advocate such as the Junior League gives us the opportunity to do what we do best serve great food, and serve a great cause. CounterBurger opened in Walnut Creek in June 2008 and partnered with the League and three other well-known non-profit organizations as part of the restaurants grand opening events. CounterBurger is also supporting the Leagues signature holiday fundraiser with Crate & Barrel, taking place on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Crate & Barrel in Walnut Creek, and is one of the upcoming donors featured in the Leagues 75 for 75 anniversary online auction now live at http://jloeb.cmarket.com.

Derek Smith, Black Diamonds Brewmaster, brings many years of experience to the brewery both as a brewer and a multiple award winner at national brewing competitions. Derek added: We applaud and support the ongoing efforts of the Junior League and their impact on the East Bay community. The Make a Difference event allows people to discover and appreciate high-quality beer and burgers, get to know the highest caliber of volunteers, and give back at the same time. Black Diamond Brewery is a local, Northern California brewery specializing in beers made with genuine European ingredients, but brewed in America.
