Lynne Torgerson is the first candidate to file in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. She plans to defeat incumbent Congressman Keith Ellison in 2010.

(Vocus) November 30, 2009 -- Lynne Torgerson, a long time Minneapolis resident and attorney announced today her candidacy for the Minnesota 5th Congressional District. The 5th Congressional District is comprised of Minneapolis and a few of its surrounding suburbs.

Torgerson, a Stateswoman, her candidacy will “definitely not be politics as usual.” She is running independent, without any party affiliation. So, she definitely needs and is seeking your support. You can view her positions on various issues at her website Torgerson for Congress

Torgerson’s position is that she cannot be put in a box; she does not neatly fit into the two-party, Republican versus Democrat system. Depending on the issues, she could be conservative, moderate, or liberal. Running in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District as a ‘Stateswoman’ gives her the opportunity to address constituents on both sides of the isle, while forming new coalitions. That’s why the people of Minnesota’s 5 CD should vote Torgerson for Congress in 2010.

Torgerson says she is grateful to live in the country that she says is the safest, most free, and most prosperous on earth. She believes in the American Dream. It is Torgerson’s desire that America and Americans be both prosperous and protected. She believes in a strong homeland security and keeping jobs in America. She would like to eliminate dependence on foreign oil, develop clean energy, but not develop nuclear energy. She is green with respect to the environment (and animals), and opposes cloning and genetically altered food. On social issues, her positions are consistent with the Catholic church, such as life beginning at conception and traditional marriage, but also supports equal rights for women. She is also big on freedom of speech and freedom of religion, as establishment by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. She also supports our ally Israel, and opposes Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon. She also supports the Second Amendment, health care reform of some sort, and restrictions on credit card companies. She opposes the auto bailout.

Torgerson seeks office to better continue the work she has done in and around Minnesota for over thirty-years, protecting constitutional rights, helping those in trouble, helping to turn problems around. Ms. Torgerson attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1985. She obtained degrees in Political Science and Psychology. Following college, Ms. Torgerson attended law school at William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There she was on Law Review and Moot Court. In 1990, she obtained her Law degree, graduating with honors.

After graduation from law school, Ms. Torgerson was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Ralph J. Geffen, United States Magistrate Judge, United States District Court, Central District of California, Los Angeles, California. Ms. Torgerson has had her own successful law practice downtown Minneapolis since 1995.

Ms. Torgerson is now running for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District, seeking to represent Minnesotans in the United States House of Representatives. Torgerson is running against incumbent Keith Ellison.
