BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - (Business Wire) This Black Friday morning, it wasn’t the traditional door buster deals that drew more than 3,000 people to Mall of America®. Thousands of ecstatic shoppers – a mixture of night owls and early birds- showed up beginning at 2 a.m. hoping to be the lucky grand prize winner of a $5,000 shopping spree. Mall of America handed out gift bags at 6 a.m. to the first 300 people in line. Every bag contained a $25 Mall of America gift card, a MOA Super Savings Coupon Book and other fun items from Mall of America retailers. Twenty-one of the bags also contained a blue ticket that entitled those 21 people to compete in the Lucky Bag contest. One very lucky contestant who won the $5,000 shopping spree made an early morning trip to the Mall on a fluke.
“I didn’t even know about Lucky Bag. I just decided to come out to Mall of America,” said Mikelynn of Woodbury, Minn. “I’m usually an unlucky person and I’m still in awe! I don’t even know where I’m going to start shopping.”
The Lucky Bag contestants eagerly selected from an array of 21 shopping bags displayed in Best Buy® Rotunda. The prizes in each of the bags were valued at a minimum of $500. For those who didn’t receive one of the 300 gift bags, Mall of America handed out 1,000 MOA Super Savings Coupon Books, valued at $9.95 each.
“We are thrilled with the turnout for this special event,” said Dan Jasper, Mall of America spokesperson. “And with more than 520 stores and 50 restaurants in Mall of America, the grand prize winner has plenty of options for her holiday shopping.”
